About the SocietyDerby & District Law Society is a local body representing the interests of members of the Solicitor's profession practising within Derbyshire, South East Staffordshire and West Nottinghamshire. It is not a local branch of the Law Society of England and Wales (the statutory body representing the Solicitors profession) and thus does not have any formal authority or jurisdiction over local Solicitors or their firms. Legal advicePlease note also that the Society does not provide legal advice to members of the public - this is the function of member solicitors. Finding the right SolicitorThe Society can provide advice on selecting an appropriate firm to handle your legal matter. Please note that it is the Society's firm policy not to make specific individual recommendations, but to advise wherever possible on at least three firms which meet enquirers' needs. However you can do this without calling the Society by using the Find a Solicitor page within this site - simply click on the appropriate button. This facility is particularly valuable if, for example, you would prefer to see a solicitor of a particular sex to deal with a problem of a delicate or personal nature - divorce/child custody, medical negligence or a Will, for instance, as you can specify this in your search criteria. If you wish to enquire about firms outside of the area the Society can put you in touch with the local Law Society relevant to your area. Complaints against your SolictorThe Society does not investigate or arbitrate on complaints from clients about their own Solicitor - if you wish to make such a complaint, please click on the Complaints button (Click on About the Society/Public/Complaints) for details on the correct procedure to follow. |
